Privacy Notice

As "D.Sc. Ilka Bakker-Abreu - Scientific Translations and Editing", I collect the following data:
Personal identification information (Name, e-mail address, phone number, etc.) and any attachment (manuscript, reference material, etc.) you send to me by any means (e-mail, letter, phone, etc.) for processing.

You directly provide me with most of the data I collect. I collect data and process data when you:
Fill out an online form or place an order for any of my services.
Voluntarily complete a customer survey or provide feedback on any of my message boards or via e-mail.

I collect your data so that I can:
- Process your order.
- E-mail you with special offers on other services I think you might find useful.
- In the event of a collaboration with another translator or editor and under your explicit consent, the assignment-relevant data and files provided by you will be shared with the above mentioned collaborator.


When I processes your order, I may send your data to, and also use the resulting information from, credit reference agencies to prevent fraudulent purchases.

I securely store your data according to the current standards of technology and treat them with confidentiality.
I will keep any information or file shared by you for the time legally required for translations and editing services. Once this time period has expired, I will delete your data from my system.

I would like to send you information about services of mine that I think you might find useful.
If you have agreed to receive marketing, you may always opt out at a later date.
You have the right at any time to stop me, as "D.Sc. Ilka Bakker-Abreu - Scientific Translations and Editing", from contacting you for marketing purposes or giving your data to other members of the eventual team processing your assignment. Please note that a team, for example a collaboration with another translator or editor, will only be put together under your explicit consent.
If you no longer wish to be contacted for marketing purposes, please send an e-mail to mail@bakker-abreu.eu. The message "opt-out from marketing" is sufficient.

I am based in Portugal, and, as a rule of thumb, I will be working from there.
If, however, I travel to a country outside of the European Union, I will not process your data/your assignnment unless I have received your explicit consent to do so. Otherwise, I will return to processing your data/your assignment after I have returned to the European Union.

I would like to make sure you are fully aware of all of your data protection rights. Every user is entitled to the following:
The right to access – You have the right to request from me copies of your personal data. I may charge you a small fee for this service.
The right to rectification – You have the right to request that I correct any information you believe is inaccurate. You also have the right to request me to complete the information you believe is incomplete.
The right to erasure – You have the right to request that I erase your personal data, under certain conditions, and so long as this request is not in conflict with any current law, for example with respect to the minimum time of data storage for translators and editors.
The right to restrict processing – You have the right to request that I restrict the processing of your personal data, under certain conditions, and so long as this request is not in conflict with any current law.
The right to object to processing – You have the right to object to my use of your personal data, under certain conditions, and so long as this request is not in conflict with any current law.
The right to data portability – You have the right to request that I transfer the data that I have collected to another organization, or directly to you, under certain conditions, and so long as this request is not in conflict with any current law.
